       Tina Sy

MY MISSION TRIP TO TUNG-SHI, TAIWAN

I am a 21 years old college student from Southern California, This was my first short term mission trip. My father, a deacon board member of FECA, decided last year that he wanted to join the Tung –Shi ministry team. After a long year of planning and praying, my entire family prepared to go during the Christmas holidays of 2001.

My responsibility in Tung-Shi was to coordinate and have lessons prepared for Vacation Bible School. I met with other teenagers, two 14 years-old girls, who partnered with my brother and I in serving VBS. The 4 of us devised interesting activities and organized games for them as we told them biblical stories in that short 4:00-5:30P.M. Time period. My only regret was that I didn’t get the chance to get to know them better.

Tung-Shi is a poor fishing city. There are many people who are willing to accept Christ but something is holding them back (family members, occupation, or tradition). There is a strong spiritual warfare, in the fields and along the river banks, there are numerous little temples that resemble the appearance and size of a doghouse. The area is currently collecting money to build a monumental temple in the heart of the area. They are misled in believing the more money they put into this temple, the better chances they will have at receiving answers to their prayers.

There are many Christians who go to Tung-Shi to plant seeds but there are not enough workers to water the seeds or care for them to allow them to grow.
